The Hep B Project

A preliminary version of the Hep B Project's ARC GIS Mapping Project has been completed and promises to make outreaching to Alameda County even easier.  The project was awarded the $10,000 CITRUS grant earlier this year to assist with the creation of an interactive map showing us visually where our different patient come from. By building this mapping system, we can easily find churches and community centers next to hot spots where there are a large amount of positive or naive patients and subsequently outreach to them. A big thanks to Flora and our entire Tech Team for making this happen!

Today the Hep B Project met with representatives for the Lao Family Community Development in Oakland to discuss the possibilities of hosting a health workshop in the future. The Lao Family Community Development, or LFCD, focuses on providing resources to new immigrants and refugees just starting out in the U.S. The Hep B Project is proud to announce it will soon host workshops at the center, especially targeting Burmese and Butanaese patients.

The Hep B Project just heard back from Hyphen magazine and is thrilled to announce it will be featured in the April Edition coming out next year. The article will address some of the issues and experiences our organization has faced in its two year history, but most importantly it will emphasize the importance of getting screened. This is a great chance for the pr

Alameda County Board Supervisor Wilma Chan in collaboration with the Alameda Health Consortium, Alameda Alliance for Health, Alameda County Medical Center, Alameda County Health Care Services Agency, Alameda County Public Health Department, AlamedaCounty Social Services Agency, and HealthPAC launched a new consumer website for the uninsured, AChealthcare.org.

ACHealthcare.org is the first website in the country to integrate local health services for low-income, uninsured families in one online location. It will help individuals cross barriers of language and accessibility to find healthcare services in the right language, location, and price range.

Make sure to check our the website and help spread the word!

The Hep B Project is happy to announce we will be hosting a fundraiser at Berkeley's House of Curries on Saturday, October 8.  For each customer bringing in our personalized flyer, House of Curries will return 10% of the bill to our project's cause so we can continue to educate, screen, and vaccinate any low-income, uninsured individuals for Hepatitis B. Make sure to come by 2520 Durant Ave with the flyer below to enjoy some fine dining for a fine cause!

The Hep B Project traveled to San Leandro today and Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish for another opportunity to outreach to new areas in Alameda County. Our Lady of Good Counsel hosted a summit informing parishioners how best to prepare themselves in case of an emergency. The Hep B Project was there, offering more information about to prepare themselves for Hepatitis B and how to get screened and vaccinated!

Another week means even more vaccinations for the Hep B Project! This week we made three more patients, one step closer to being Hep B free!

The Hep B Project traveled to Oakland's Laurel United Methodist Church today for another on-site screening. Today's event provided the unique chance to reach out to a specifically Pacific Islander population. Although, Pacific Islanders are one of the Project's target populations, they only make up a fraction of its total patients. Today proved an important step towards changing that.

Additionally, the event was attended my Kelly Banh, 2010-2011 Miss California National US. Kelly advocates across the state not only for Hepatitis B, but also for community disaster education and first aid with the American Red Cross.

Below are a few pictures from the event. Thank you again, to Kelly, Ying, Kathy, and all the volunteers that made this event possible. Over 20 were registered for our on-site screenings!

As Berkeley students go back to school, the Hep B Project welcomes back all of its volunteers that were left during the summer! Today, the project held a large orientation for over 40 of its volunteers to refresh their knowledge about Hepatitis B and the ways we help the community. Below are a few pictures of our awesome volunteers as they interact with one another, practice their outreaching skills, and get excited for another year working towards eliminating Hepatitis B from Alameda County.
