The Hep B Project set up for Saturday Clinic and was surprised to find about 100 people lined up just a few blocks from the location of our Saturday Clinic. A crowd had assembled because a charity organization was passing out free bags of rice for the holiday season. With the help of our Cantonese volunteers, we were able to outreach to the entire line and educate them a little bit about hepatitis B while they were waiting. This was especially convenient since it was so close to our Saturday Clinic location so that those in line could easily know where we are located. This same organization is planning another rice giveaway in January, and the Hep B Project will be there to provide these same educational and screening services to the large crowd that turns out.
Today was an educational event located at the Wat Buddhanusorn Thai Temple in Fremont. The temple hosted a festival while the Hep B Project, as well as Alameda County Hep B Free, and other organizations, did tabling on the side. We offered free blood pressure screenings as well as pamphlets and information about Hepatitis B. The event was received warmly by the community. Many of the visitors did not know their vaccination status and the Hep B Project was there to provide information and support about how they could take control of their healthcare. |
